MPC is a student-initiated organization based on the felt need that photography is essential in the school undertaking. It was established on 24th November 2001 under the advisorship of Architect Ma. Nora N. Soriano, faculty of the School of Architecture and Industrial Design.
With this as its main objective, registration has been made and finally came up with thirty-six founding members. At first, it was exclusively formed for architecture and industrial design students. But due to the insistent demand, the organization was opened regardless of courses and year levels. Since then, series of activities had been made to build up the organization.
The first major activity was conducted last December 2001. A seminar and workshop on Basic Photography, which was well attended by members, non-members and faculty as well. A photograph exhibition by a featured artists including members work was made to introduce the existence of the club to the Institute. It brought about recognition from both faculty and students. It was followed by another seminars and workshops: Black and White Photography and Creative Photography. Not only inside the institute, the MPC shared its participation to off-campus invitational activities such as on-the-spot photo contest and others.
In June 2002, in less than six months of the existence of the club, the MPC received its certification as recognized student organization from the Office of Student Affairs for being an active organization in the institute.
Despite the hectic schedules of all the concern and the short duration, the Mapúa Photography Club hurdled its first attempt to be a club worthy of the institute.
